September 5, 2023   OEJP Statement on Japanese Supreme Court’s Decision to Dismiss Okinawa Governor’s Disapproval of Seafloor Reinforcement Work for Henoko Base Construction     On September 4, 2023, the Japanese supreme court delivered yet another blow to Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki’s efforts and, thus, Okinawa people’s efforts to stop the Japanese and U.S. governments’ plan to construct a U.S. military base at Henoko-Oura Bay (Henoko base project) and to protect the area’s magnificent biodiversity.                                                                                　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　2023 年 9 月 5 日   沖縄県知事による辺野古新基地建設設計変更への不承認を違法とした最高裁判決に対する OEJP 声明 ( 和訳 )     2023 年 9 月 4 日、日本の最高裁判所は、日米政府による辺野古・大浦湾への米軍基地建設計画を止めさせ、この海域の素晴らしい生物多様性を守ろうとする玉城デニー沖縄県知事の努力、ひいては沖縄県民の努力を踏み躙る判決を下した。 Okinawa Environmental Justice Project は、今回の判決を非難するとともに、辺野古基地計画を阻止し、辺野古・大浦湾の環境を守る取り組みを続けることを宣言する。 700名以上が参加した最高裁判決への抗議集会（9月5日）  最高裁は玉城知事の上告を棄却し、高裁による以下の判断を支持した： 玉城知事による沖縄防衛局の辺野古基地建設の設計変更・工事（軟弱地盤改良工事）申請の不承認は違法であある。国土交通省が同局の申請を承認するよう知事に求めた通達は適法である。よって玉城知事は申請を承認しなければならない。最高裁は知事に弁論の機会さえ与えなかった。    最高裁の判決は、建設現場の大浦湾側で発見された極めて軟弱な海底（ N 値が 0 ）を、防衛局が提案した方法により、沖縄ジュゴンを含む環境に影響を与えることなく補強できるという、日本政府の夢物語を無謀に支持するものである。しかし実際には、この判決は、不必要な環境破壊を継続させ、辺野古新基地をそ...
